The Master Technician of a work cell is the technical expert of that cell. The Master Technician should know all of the job functions within the work cell, and support the Supervisor of that work cell to achieve the required results.
The Master Technician should:
1). Perform the required job set-ups within the Work Cell that the cell technicians cannot perform themselves.
2). Make sure that the work is flowing continuously through the work cell with minimal backlog and according to Continuous Flow Manufacturing principles.
3). Make sure that the supplies used within the cell are maintained at the proper inventory levels, and that supplies are reordered (either through the Supervisor or Purchasing) when required.
4). Monitor the safety performance of the cell technicians to make sure everyone is working safely, and according to the WPCC Safety Guidelines.
5). Assist Engineering and Supervision with the development of accurate standard practices, procedures and routing.
6). Follow-up with the required cleaning of the work cell to make sure that the work cell is kept neat and orderly.
7). Assist cell technicians that require help performing their tasks.
8). Train the technicians within your work cell or help coordinate the training of cell technicians by other qualified cell technicians.
9). Report to cell Supervisor any accidents or activities that are unsafe or against WPCC policies.
10). Aid in the development of continuous improvement ideas, suggestions, and implementations.
11). Be a leader that " leads by example", have a good work ethic, keep yourself busy performing the tasks expected of a Master Technician.
12). Ensure that the cell technicians are reading and following routing and standard practices.
13). Keep the equipment within your work cell properly maintained either by yourself performing the required PM' s or by coordinating the PM' s with the Maintenance Dept. Or your Supervisor.
14). Report any problems with all of the above to Supervision or upper management.
15). Jump in and perform direct labor as much as possible.
