Participates in all aspects of landscape construction and exhibit construction as pertains to the Zoo. Has some carpentry and building construction experience and is an all-around handyperson. Operating machinery including: mowers, hedgers, weed-whackers, chainsaw, roto-tillers, backhoe loaders, tractors, snow blower, and sod cutters. Perform all aspects of ground maintenance. Performs related work as required.


Has some carpentry experience and is an all-around handyperson.
Frames, repairs, and paints walls and will alter offices and public spaces.
Maintains flooring, ceilings and other commercial surfaces.
Performs minor carpentry functions as required.
Helps out all members of the Facilities department whenever needed.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
Participates in the installation, repair, and removal of exhibits and the construction of new exhibits.
Provides preventative maintenance and repair for ground and buildings.
Follows maintenance schedules and checklists.
Assists with installation and removal of temporary and permanent exhibits.
Assists with fabrication of new exhibits and/or prototypes.
Performs equipment and vehicle maintenance.
Assists with deliveries.
Fills in as needed, and supporting the guest experience.
Any other miscellaneous projects/assignment assigned by facilities manager.


Must have at least one year of work related experience. Must possess a willingness to help other co-workers with projects. Must be flexible and receptive to change. Schedule will include weekend days and holidays. Must be able to work late evenings on occasion. . Willing to help out other departments in emergency situations or where additional staff is needed. Basic maintenance and landscaping skills desired.

Willingness and ability to learn: basic operation of machinery, basic first-aid and CPR, to work overtime and be available based on special needs/circumstances on a 24 hour basis, work outdoors, lift heavy objects, and risk periodic exposure to fairly predictable and controllable hazards associated with wild animals and zoonotic diseases. Ability to work on a team and with volunteers, and to work with a variety of people in a professional and pleasant way.
